HISTORY

[ 1st Generation Wielder of the 3rd Relic, Gungnir. Amou Kanade. ]

Five years prior to the main events of Season 1, when Kanade was 14 years old, Kanade and her little sister joined their parents over the weekend to the relic excavation site that they were working at. It was on this day that the Noise attacked the dig site, killing all of the researchers and excavators present, including Kanade's parents and little sister. Kanade was left as the only survivor. (It was later revealed that the attack had been caused by Finé in order to claim the recently-excavated Shenshoujing relic in secrecy).

When Kanade, the sole survivor, was brought in by Section Two, she was violent to the point where she had to be put into full-body restraints. Filled with rage, and having a vague understanding that this organization was working to fight the Noise, she demanded a weapon with which to avenge her family with, believing that only she had the right to avenge them. Despite being warned that this path would be a hellish one, she remained resolute, and her request was (reluctantly) accepted... making Kanade the first test subject for a drug that could boost a person's compatibility coefficient with relics: LiNKER. Tests and experiments would be conducted in attempts to artificially create a wielder for the third relic, Gungnir, the majority of which "could never be considered even remotely humane".

During this period, she would meet Tsubasa Kazanari, a timid young girl who was born with natural compability for the Ame-no-Habakiri relic. At first, she resented the younger Tsubasa, who didn't have to put herself through hell just to gain power. However, while she was barely conscious, she discovered that Tsubasa would often hold her hand while she was unconscious to comfort her, and as a result she found the strength to persevere.

Ultimately, after hellish pain and experiments... Kanade finally gained the weapon she'd coughed up so much blood for. After yet another failed experiment, Kanade broke free from her bindings, stole a vial of LiNKER from one of the scientists present, and intentionally overdosed far past the safe threshold. Though the process almost killed her, she was finally able to activate Gungnir for the first time.

Working with Tsubasa, Kanade devoted herself to fighting the Noise. Though her link coefficient was extremely low, requiring doses of the then-experimental LiNKER to function despite the immense burden it placed upon her body, Kanade more than made up for it with proficiency in combat and an impressive sense for battle. Though she often called herself a "fake wielder" and frequently complained about her "time limit", it was undeniable that at the time, she was the strongest wielder.

However, during the aftermath of one of her missions, she pulled a soldier out of the rubble... who thanked her for saving his life, elaborating that even though he was able to hear her song under the rubble, giving him the strength he needed to not give up. This moment had a profound impact on Kanade, who had only been focused on fighting the Noise until then, and hadn't ever considered what it was like for others to hear her song, let alone the effect it'd have on them. It was this realization that lead to her deciding to form the idol duo "Zwei Wing" with Tsubasa.

Two years prior to the events of Season 1, an experiment is conducted to utilize the phonic gain generated during one of Zwei Wing's concerts to activate the Nehushtan Armor—a complete relic which had withstood the test of time, unlike the other relics, which had been reduced to fragments. Another purpose of this experiment was to gather data from both Kanade and Tsubasa during their performance, and in order to reduce the number of uncontrollable variables and prevent unusuable ("garbage") data, Kanade was instructed to refrain from taking her prescribed dosage of LiNKER for a period of time before the concert.

Though the project seemed to be a success, upon being activated, Nehushtan's energy suddenly spiked and caused a massive explosion underneath the stage. At the same time, a large outbreak of Noise occurred, plunging the entire concert into mayhem. With the chain of command having broken down, Kanade made the decision to fight. However, due to her having not taken any LiNKER, her combat time was cut drastically short, and her Symphogear started to rapidly lose power. A trap laid by Finé, who worked as Ryoko Sakurai within Section Two, to both steal the Nehushtan Armor and kill Kanade—the strongest Symphogear user at the time—in one fell swoop.

Ultimately, Kanade met her end when Kanade protected the 13-year-old Hibiki Tachibana from the Noise's attacks, only for a piece of her gear to break off from the damage and hit Hibiki in the chest. Panicked, Kanade begged Hibiki to not give up on living... and found relief in that the light had not yet left Hibiki's eyes.

With the situation as bad as it was, there being too much Noise for two of them to deal with—let alone one, now that Kanade's body was at it's limit—Kanade decided to end the fighting instantly by singing her Superb Song. With her link coefficient as low as it was, the result was set in stone. Kanade Amou burned her life to the point that it ran out, wiping out all of the Noise in the area at the cost of her own life. Her body disintegrated in Tsubasa's arms, and the Gungnir relic along with her... though unbeknownst to all, the remaining fragments left in Hibiki Tachibana's chest that were too small to be surgically removed would eventually fuse with Hibiki's body, allowing Kanade's gear to return with a successor two years later.

Kanade Amou, age at death: 17 years old.
XDU HISTORY

In Senki Zesshou Symphogear XDU, the various plots and events throughout the story generally revolve around the existence of parallel worlds, and the main world's ability to access them via the Gjallarhorn relic. One of these worlds is the one where we get the Kanade who is present within the majority of the game, which we will aptly refer to as the Kanadeverse.

In this world, the main difference is that unlike the original canon events, Tsubasa is the one who sacrifices herself using her Superb Song at the Zwei Wing concert. Other Symphogear wielders do not seem to be present/relevant within this world. Kanade's background in this world is mostly the same as the mainverse Kanade's, and after losing someone precious to her to the Noise for the second time, Kanade relapsed into her old mindset. Zwei Wing was disbanded, but rather than continuing her music career, Kanade stepped away from the stage to focus her entire being on taking revenge by annihilating the Noise.

During the One-Winged Wielders event, Kanade's debut event, the mainverse wielders travel to the Kanadeverse after the awakening of Gjallarhorn connected their worlds, where they meet Kanade and work to resolve the threat that caused Gjallarhorn to connect their worlds in the first place. Initially, tensions are high, with Kanade refusing to acknowledge Tsubasa due to her being a different world's Tsubasa, rather than her own. Ultimately, however, the crisis is resolved... with Tsubasa and Kanade coming to terms with each other, wanting to connect even if they aren't the same as the one they both lost. Kanade restarts her career as a singer.

The other main difference with the Kanadeverse is the presence of the Alchemists, who remain alive in this world and work together with Section 2 to maintain order and protect their world... though there were a few mishaps and misunderstandings along the way. Notably, Adam Weishaupt is also alive here, and is actually entirely on the good side despite still acting as suspicious as ever. He's revealed to have been good friends with Carol Malus Dienheim's father, Izak, and is frequently the indirect (and frustratingly unintentional) cause of most of Kanadeverse's issues.

Ryoko Sakurai is also alive in this world, and is treated as Ryoko Sakurai... though it remains unclear if she's really Ryoko, or Finé still pretending to be her. This ultimately goes unaddressed, and Kanade considers her an ally, leaving it up in the air if this world's Ryoko was responsible for the deaths of Kanade's family or not. Genjuro Kazanari knows basic self-defense, but is not a martial monster like in mainverse, and has a preference for the Mystery genre rather than the Action genre.
